In the early years of printing in Italy, Accursius Bonus edited a compendium of an important work by the eminent Italian humanist Lorenzo Valla (1407-1457). In his work Elegantiarum Libri Sex, Valla extolled the elegance and beauty of the Latin language basing himself on the writings of Virgil, Cicero and Livy. In the Compendium, Bonus organized Valla's material systematically in the form of a comprehensive grammar.
