Plautus, Titus Maccius
*
Titus Maccius Plautus (c.254-184 BC) is considered to be the greatest Roman comic playwright. He wrote about 52 plays mostly adapted from Greek models for a Roman audience and often based on the works of Greek playwrights, particularly Menander. Some 20 of Plautus's plays survive. This edition contains ample introductory texts and commentaries by the 15th century scholars Gio. Pietro Valla and Bernardo Saraceni and includes, among others, the comedies Amphitryo, Menaechmi, Miles Gloriosus and Stichus.
